A POS system helps track inventory, manage your business and process sales, while a payment processor handles the transaction between your business and the customer’s bank or card issuer. Lightspeed POS can integrate with payment processors and also includes Lightspeed Payments.
Generally, yes. A cloud-based POS system needs an internet connection for functions such as processing card transactions, updating inventory in real time and syncing sales data for reporting and analytics. An internet-connected POS system also provides access to real-time data, updates and integrations from any location.
When you sign up for Lightspeed POS and Payments, your business receives one free payment terminal for use in your retail store or hospitality venue. Lightspeed POS works in a web browser on Mac, PC, Apple and Android devices, while the apps are built exclusively for Apple iPads. You may also be able to use some of your existing hardware. Lightspeed hardware is available to purchase directly and is not leased.
Lightspeed Restaurant users have access to 24/7 chat, email and phone support. Lightspeed Retail users receive free one-on-one onboarding sessions, while some merchants may have access to phone support depending on their plan. Lightspeed also provides Help Center articles and a community for users to connect with other retailers, restaurateurs and Lightspeed experts.
Lightspeed Payments is included in all POS system subscription options for Lightspeed Retail and Restaurant users. If you choose to use Lightspeed Retail or Lightspeed without Lightspeed Payments, a transaction fee will apply.
